The Tidelash is a whip-like algae anchored in Berinu’s tidal zones. It moves violently with the pull of the tide, lashing outward to entangle small marine fauna, which decompose or feed larger aquatic life. Its presence helps sustain coastal food chains while adding to the hazards of Berinu’s shifting shores.

Lifespan

Lives 5–10 years. Matures at 1–2 years. Produces spores in tidal seasons.

Uses

• Ecological Role: Entangles and breaks down small marine fauna, feeding into tidal food webs.
• Cultural Significance: Used by Berinese as a fishing aid, both directly and in net-making; symbolizes the fury and unpredictability of the tides.
• Guidance: Safely harvested during low tide. Strands may be woven into nets or traps.
