Barkmilk Vine

Alias: None
Origin: Saethera (canopy zones)

The Barkmilk Vine is a robust climbing plant native to the humid canopy zones of Saethera. It thrives in warmlight forests beneath the polar canopy where Saethern’s constant light sustains stable temperatures. Its white, sealing sap is a vital resource for field expeditions, used for dressing wounds and binding fibers. The vine overgrows branches in dense, humid environments, creating natural latticeworks that support small fauna and stabilize canopy ecosystems. It was harvested by early Saetheran tribes for medicinal and structural purposes and remains a key survival tool for modern explorers in the region’s unforgiving terrain.

Terrain

Grows exclusively in Saethera’s canopy zones where it entwines high branches and trunks in warmlight forests. Prefers stable, humid substrates with minimal soil. Anchors to bark and forms dense networks in elevated forest layers. Absent in open clearings and lowlands.

Elevation

Found at elevations of 2–5 km within Saethera’s forested canopies. Rare below 1.5 km where humidity and consistent light are insufficient.

Climate

Saethera’s canopy zones are warm and humid, averaging 20–30°C due to Saethern’s constant illumination. The Barkmilk Vine flourishes in this stable, high-humidity environment and struggles in drier or colder regions outside the polar canopy’s influence.

Weather & Resilience

Withstands frequent mist and light drizzles that sustain sap production. Vulnerable to seismic events that disturb canopies and to strong winds from stellar disruptions. Vines in dense canopies remain protected.

Lifespan

Lifespan 30–50 Geban years. Rapid growth in the first 5 years. Matures at ~8 Geban years and produces viable seeds in humid seasons when mist is heaviest.

Size

Mature vines extend 10–20 meters in length. Diameter ranges 2–5 cm with thicker base segments where sap accumulates. Young vines (under 5 Geban years) typically span 2–5 meters.
