Emberbriar (Euphorifloris cineris)

Alias: None
Origin: Coastal Thazvaar

The Emberbriar was an extinct plant native to the coastal plains of Thazvaar, known for its potent dust, processed from its ember-like blooms, which induced extreme focus and aggression when snorted or swallowed. This short-lived effect, accompanied by pain numbing and exponential performance enhancement, made it highly popular among soldiers and mercenaries during the Era of Imperial Conquest (~3,500–3,000 years before modern Geba). Thazvaari women introduced the plant’s processing to Geban soldiers, who used it to survive brutal battles, though widespread addiction followed. The Geban Empire eradicated all Emberbriar plants long before the Thazvaari war ended to curb addiction’s devastating effects on its forces. Its presence once indicated fertile, well-drained soils, but its extinction left only archaeological traces.

Terrain

Emberbriars thrived in the coastal plains of Thazvaar, favoring well-drained, nutrient-rich soils in open clearings near tidal zones. They grew in dense clusters, stabilizing soil against wind erosion, but were absent in inland Thazvaar’s extreme deserts or humid wetlands due to their need for sunlight and moderate moisture.

Elevation

Found at low elevations, typically from sea level to 0.5 km, Emberbriars dominated Coastal Thazvaar’s plain ecosystems. They were rarely seen above 1 km, as higher elevations lacked the fertile, moist conditions required for their growth.

Climate

Coastal Thazvaar’s climate, averaging 20–40°C during the day with nighttime drops to 10–20°C, supported the Emberbriar’s growth. The plant relied on Zhaerys’ influence for consistent aridity and coastal fog for moisture, thriving in stable, moderately dry conditions.

Weather

Emberbriars were adapted to frequent dust storms and heat displacement in Coastal Thazvaar, with blooms resilient to wind erosion. They benefited from fog-heavy nights for seed dispersal. Seismic activity could uproot younger plants, but mature ones remained stable. Rare stellar disruptions (Izhara’s plasma storms) scorched exposed blooms.

Lifespan

Emberbriars lived 5–12 years, with rapid bloom cycles in the first year and consistent dust production thereafter. They reached maturity at 2 years, producing viable seeds during brief post-storm wet seasons.

Height

Mature Emberbriars reached 0.4–0.8 meters in height, with dense clusters of ember-like blooms spreading up to 0.5 meters wide. Younger plants (under 1 year) were typically 0.1–0.3 meters tall, with sparser foliage.
