Ventfrond (*Thermofolium kela*)

Alias: None
Origin: Kela (geothermal vents)

The Ventfrond is a resilient, frond-like plant that thrives near Kela’s geothermal vents. Its broad leaves absorb heat and minerals from vent steam, anchoring it within one of Geba’s harshest yet most fertile microhabitats. By filtering minerals and stabilizing soils, it supports unique vent-dwelling fauna while providing cultural and practical uses for Kelan communities.

Terrain

Geothermal vents, rooted in warm, humid soils. Absent in cold or dry biomes.

Lifespan

Lives 10–15 years. Matures at 2–3 years. Produces spores during vent-active seasons.

Height & Spread

Reaches 0.6–1.2 meters in height, spreading 0.5–1 meter. Juveniles range from 0.2–0.5 meters.

Uses

Notes

Documented in the Era of Absolute Expansion (~3,000 years before modern Geba), Ventfronds remain integral to Kela’s vent ecosystems. Extant and thermal.
